Benauge Castle
Located in the commune of Arbis (Porte-de-Benauge), this imposing medieval fortress dating back to the 11th century dominates the Entre-deux-Mers from one of its highest points. Modified until the 18th century, it was one of the most important strongholds of the Duchy of Aquitaine.
Cadillac Castle
In the heart of the Cadillac bastide, this ceremonial palace was built under Henry IV and Louis XIII by the powerful Duke of Épernon. It impresses with its royal dimensions, monumental fireplaces, and painted ceilings, before suffering a darker fate as a women's prison in the 19th century.
Tastes Castle
Perched on the promontory of Sainte-Croix-du-Mont, this 14th-century fortified castle now houses the town hall. In addition to its medieval architecture, the site offers an exceptional panorama of the Garonne River and has the unique feature of being built above an impressive cliff of fossilized oysters dating back 22 million years.
La Brède Castle
A magnificent Gothic-style castle surrounded by vast water moats and an English-style park. It is world-renowned as the birthplace and residence of the famous philosopher Montesquieu, who wrote most of his works here (including The Spirit of the Laws).
Célestine Cave
Located in Rauzan, this is the only developed underground river in the Gironde department. Equipped with boots and a headlamp, visitors explore the galleries carved into the limestone rock and discover superb natural scenery made of stalactites, stalagmites, and draperies.
Rauzan Castle
Built on the initiative of John Lackland (King of England and Duke of Aquitaine) in the 13th century, this medieval castle rears its majestic ruins in the heart of the village. Its 31-meter-high cylindrical keep and magnificent palm-tree vault bear witness to its former power.
Blasimon Abbey
A former Benedictine abbey (Saint-Maurice Abbey) nestled at the bottom of an Entre-deux-Mers valley. Its abbey church is a jewel of Romanesque art, particularly remarkable for its sculpted 12th-century portal, richly decorated with depictions of daily life and religious scenes.
Roquetaillade Castle
Located in Mazères, this exceptional site features two fortified castles (from the 12th and 14th centuries) within the same enclosure. Inhabited by the same family for over 700 years, it was sumptuously restored and decorated in the 19th century by the famous architect Viollet-le-Duc.
Cazeneuve Castle
A royal property located in Préchac, overlooking the spectacular Ciron gorges. This elegant castle, formerly owned by King Henry IV and Queen Margot, is entirely furnished with period pieces and surrounded by a vast wooded park (Natura 2000 network).
The Battle of Castillon
Castillon-la-Bataille hosts the largest historical outdoor show in Nouvelle-Aquitaine. With hundreds of actors, horses, and pyrotechnics, it reenacts the famous 1453 battle that ended the Hundred Years' War and three centuries of English presence in Aquitaine.
